Articulate Storyline 3: Next Button issues
Oct 11, 2018
Hi Everyone,
I have read multiple discussions on this topic and none of them seem to be working for me. :-(
I have a training and when they click next to advance (which appears after the timeline ends) and then previous from that slide the next button is hidden again. They then have to scroll the progress bar back a little and forwards to get the next button to show again. I've tried using different triggers such as
1. Set NextButton equal to True when the timeline starts
2. Change state of the next button to Disabled when the timeline starts
- if NextButton is equal to False
3. Change state of the next button to Normal when the timeline ends.
Has anyone found a solution for this issue? I'm working in Articulate Storyline 3. Thank you!

Hi there Katie! Happy to help!
First, tell me more about your end goal. Do you want to restrict the next button the first time the learner views the slide, but enable the next button if the learner goes back?
If so, you actually don't need all those triggers and variables. Storyline's restricted navigation feature will do the work for you!
Let me know if that's what you had in mind, or if you need something a little different!
That's exactly what I'm looking to do. I am using a restricted navigation and even without the triggers once the viewer clicks previous the next button isn't clickable. It isn't until they pull the progress bar back and forwards can they go back to the next slide.
Hmm, that's definitely not working correctly, Katie. Would you mind sharing a few slides with me so I can take a deeper dive into your file?
You can attach the slides to a new reply or send them privately here.
