Articulate Storyline 3 update 10 Issue

Aug 11, 2020

I have updated Articulate Storyline to update 10 version 3.10.22406.0.

When I publish a course under LMS, with the HTML5 Only Format, and the LMS Output option set to Tin Can API,  the course will not launch properly. See attached video. Once I start the course, it will just act like it is loading - not actually starting.

I also noticed that the output folder does not have a story_html5 file as it did in the past.

Is there a setting I am missing or something I am not doing correctly?

Hello Robert,

Thanks for sharing what you are experiencing with your published output as well as your questions about the files.

The course will not launch properly. Is there something I am not doing correctly?

Based on the video that you shared, you're launching the published output from your local files, correct? To test your published content and share it with others, upload it to the environment for which it was published.

The output folder does not have a story_html5 file in Storyline 3 Version 3.10.22406.0?

We simplified the published output in Storyline 3 builds 3.10.22406.0 and later. When you publish HTML5-only or Flash-only courses, Storyline no longer generates the following files in your published output:

• index_lms_flash.html
• index_lms_html5.html
• story_flash.html
• story_html5.html

You'll only see the files above when you publish courses with both HTML5 and Flash formats.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Leslie,

I appreciate your response. I guess I need to explain my issue better. Up until the last update, I have been able to preview the course I just published from the "Publish Successful" dialog box. This new update will begin to launch the course, however it gets stuck loading the first page. I had recorded several seconds of it just spinning, however the video was too big to attach so I had to cut it down.

I followed your advice, and the course published in update 10 will not work in my LMS environment. It will work if I publish it with my laptop running update 9. I have not allowed the update to install on my laptop at this time.

Hi there, Robert!

I'm going to share these details with our Support Engineers so we could get a better understanding of what's going on in Update 10. The team will likely need to test your file, so please this unique link to share it privately:

Look out for an email from the team soon!

Hi Laura,

Thanks for reaching out! The issue Robert was facing where:

A Tin Can API published output is blank when viewed locally or via the View Project option.

has been resolved in Storyline 3 Update 11. You can download the latest version here!

If this isn't what you're experiencing, feel free to connect with a support engineer, and they can lend you a hand in figuring out why this is happening!

Yes, that is what I was experiencing, so I downloaded the latest update. However, I am still unable to view the Tin Can API published output. Fortunately, the published output is working fine once put in the LMS. But it would be nice to be able to view the published output for a final check before sending it on to the LMS administrator. Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks, Laura

Hi Leslie,

I've experienced this issue with Storyline 3 v.3.11.2355.0. What output file should be used then for web?

I've tried using the story.html file but it won't load in Edge or IE (both current versions). I've selected the HTML5 only option when publishing for web.

Any direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Kyle

Good morning, Kyle. I'm happy to jump in!

To distribute a published course, upload it to your web server and then link to the story.html file in the published output.

It sounds like you're taking the same steps, but let me know if you have any questions and my link doesn't work for you in Edge/IE! We'll explore from there.
