Articulate Storyline to run on IOS devices without Safari Closing?

Jun 03, 2014

Do you have any insights on how to get around getting Articulate Storyline content to run on iOS devices (mainly iPads) without having Safari close due to memory issues?

Hi Meredith,

What version of the iPad and iOS are you using? The amount of memory Safari can handle varies by the type of device you're using, and there is some additional explanation of that here.  Are you able to use the Articulate Mobile player? Here is additional information on how to publish for the HTML5 or mobile player output.

No we are not able to use the Mobile app. I have mentioned that as well so it does not get used. When the clients view the course on Safari it seems to shutdown the app when it reaches 10MB limit. Not sure on the versions of the IPAD and iOS, I will ask.

Any other insights to make the viewing of the course user friendly instead of getting the clients frustrated?

Hi Meredith,

Were you able to find out which iPad/iOS they are using? Are you able to test it outside of your LMS to help narrow down the memory issues? You may want to test it it on a web server or SCORM Cloud (an industry standard for testing SCORM Content) to help see if the LMS is causing any additional issues with playing the course on the iPad. There are also a few free web servers included in this article with you could try.

Hi Meredith,

It could be - but without seeing it, it's hard to say. So, here are some additional resources you may want to check into and that can assist with troubleshooting:

General limitations of mobile Safari and HTML5 output is described here

A reminder that only one media file may play at a time in mobile safari

A great set of articles about publishing for HTML5:

Also, what update are you using to publish the Storyline files? We're on update 5 now, which has included a number of fixes for HTML5 content detailed here.

I know you mentioned you were not able to share the course, but if your client would like to share the course with us or could authorize it,you don't have to share it publicly here in the forums - I can send you directions on how to share it with me privately or you can connect with our Support Engineers.
