Audio Does Not Replay When Clicking Replay & Bug still present?

Nov 16, 2016

Hello,

I am on them most recent build of SL2 11: 1609.3020.

We have a menu slide with four buttons that jump to specific scenes. Each button has the typical states (normal, hover, visited), this slide does not have layers, it is however the last slide in the section.

I have moved the audio .25 sec out from the beginning of the time line (also increased gap at end of timeline). I have added silence and both the beginning and end of the actual audio file.

Slide preferences for "When Revisiting" are set to "Automatically Decide".  The replay function will work if I set slide properties to "Reset to Initial State" however this not an option for our course as learners need to see what sections have been visited, and resetting to initial state  removes the buttons visited display. All other slides have audio and the issue is not present.

I created a new slide rebuilt the items brought in the audio from the original file and the issue persist.

Appears to be caused by the buttons the issue does not occur after removing them.

Lastly the bug reported to be fixed in "Fixed issue where default button states wouldn't always save correctly (e.g., colors might change)" Appears to still be an issue as i direct copied from one SL2 file to another and changed the hover state.

Any help is appreciated

Hi there Patrick! Thanks for sharing those details here. I want to make sure I am understanding you intended outcome. Is this correct?

You would like the audio on Slide 1.1 Main Menu to reply when the slide is revisited, and you do not want to use the setting, 'Reset to initial state'.

Also, can you please provide more information on the bug you mentioned below? Is that included in the file you attached?

Hello Alyssa,

Apologies for the late reply,  what we are looking for the slide to do is perform the same as all of our others. If a learner revisits the menu or while on it for the first time they can click the replay button to rehear the audio.

When a student revisits they should have the same functionality without losing the "Visitied" states on buttons for the course sections. So correct we do not want to use the "Reset to initial state"

As for the bug mentioned yes it is present in the provided story file.  The buttons in the menu provided have a hover state where text does not match its default & visited states.  These buttons come direct from another file where the text in each state are all the same.

I hope this clarifies.

Hi Patrick, thanks for that clarification. I'll first address the replay button.

The replay button is programmed to replay the slide timeline, not just the audio. If you set your slide properties to "Resume saved state", that option will prevent the slide from rewinding. Therefore, the replay button will not work. You can read more information about that here.

You have two options for replaying the audio each time a user revisits the menu slide:

  1. Create a trigger to "Play audio Audio 1 when timeline starts on Slide 1.1 Main Menu." This trigger will replay the audio automatically each time the user visits the menu slide.
  2. Create a custom "Replay" button on the slide with a trigger to play the audio when the button is clicked.

I'll do some additional digging on the bug you mentioned. I can definitely see the difference in the size of the normal state text and the hover state text. Once I find out more information on why that is occuring, I'll share it here.

Ah I see thank you,

Automatically decide: This is the default option, and it means Articulate Storyline will decide automatically whether to rewind the slide or not. Here's the logic: If the slide contains just simple objects and audio but no interactivity, Storyline will rewind the slide to the beginning of the slide’s timeline. However, if the slide contains any interactive elements, such as buttons or any other object that includes a visited/selected state, Storyline won't rewind the slide.

Ill pass this info on to our team and look forward to your findings on the menu issue.

Hi Patrick, thanks so much for your patience! I did some digging on the bug you mentioned, and that bug actually doesn't apply to your file because it references buttons, and you're using rectangular shapes. I tried to reproduce your issue by creating a rectangular shape with 3 states (Normal, Hover, and Visited), then I copied that shape from one file to another. In copying and pasting the shape, I did not lose any of the states. Take a look at this short video of my testing. Is this scenario different than your situation?
