Basic Newbie Questions

Sep 19, 2013

Hi,

I am evaluating Storyline for use by a customer and have some basic questions.

We will have a larger website and would like Storyline course content to be incorporated within it.  Users should only be able to access the Storyline course once they have been authorized to do so.  The course is a presentation only, with no testing.  I would need to know when the course has been viewed in it's entirety.

I would like to know if there is a way to pass a unique tracking Id into the course, and to have the course return the Id to a URL when the course has been completed.  The user should not be able to go directly to the course, or any page within it, without the tracking Id being supplied.

I'm assuming the course would be published as a web course and I could use the generated files in my overall site.

Is something like this possible?  Is there a description of this sort of integration available in your site?  I have looked but haven't seen anything.

Thanks for the help,

Keith

Good Afternoon, Keith.

Storyline is designed primarily as an elearning development tool to be used in conjunction with Articulate Online or your own Learning Management System (LMS).

Any LMS that is compliant with SCORM, AICC, or Tin Can API will also provide accurate tracking capabilities.  Dokeos, eFront, and Moodle are some open-source LMS options that may meet your tracking needs.

Tracking results in a text file or database is not supported.  If you'd like to track your Storyline content without an LMS, there may be some other folks here in our Community Forums who may have handled similar situations via JavaScript.

Thanks.  I've been exploring the forums, tutorials and community blogs.  I've seen other questions about passing information in on the querystring or by setting an asp.net session variable that can be read later.  Either would be fine for me but I'm guessing they don't work.

I see where I can have a Jump to URL trigger on a results slide that can take the user to another URL.  Passing the Id back to the URL on the querystring would work.  But, I'm guessing that doesn't work either.

Am I correct in my assumptions?
