Best Practices for Drag and Drop quiz functionality

Jan 05, 2024

Curious to know what best practices others use when designing their drag and drops.

What types of questions do you use drag and drops for - term matching/sorting, image sorting/labeling, something else?

Specifically, how do you handle:

  • Feedback for individual correct/incorrect responses - (also curious to know rationales for your choices if you would be willing to share.)
    • Do you lock correct responses and disable their drop zones or can the learner "bounce" a previously correct answer out with an incorrect response?
    • Do you return incorrect drag items to the parking lot or leave them in their incorrect drop zones when the learner re-attempts?
    • Do you give feedback with each response or does the learner need to make all selections and then submit to get feedback?
    • What type of feedback do you give? (text on feedback layer, color coding of drag item or drop zone, something else?)
  • Accessibility - What accommodations have you implemented to make drag and drops more accessible?
  • Any other functional or theoretical considerations that impact your design?

Thanks in advance for any input!
