Big problem with hyperlinks

May 25, 2017

I have a course in Storyline 360 with numerous links (URLs) for the user to explore. I had originally imported the course from a PPT, but there was significant font/size cleanup involved. When testing, I noticed many links did not work or went to the wrong URL.

As I'm attempting to correct, there's a bigger problem: each time I copy/paste the hyperlink into the "File" field, it seems to reset all previous "corrected" links to that location. That is, when I go back to recheck previously fixed links, it now contains the URL for the most recent link I pasted into that field. even as I check ones ahead in the course I have not yet fixed, those also contain the most recently "fixed" URL.

Help? Ideas? This is maddening...

After many hours of trial and error yesterday, I discovered that multiple links within the same text box are a problem. Once I divided up the text into multiple text boxes, making sure there was only one link in each, the links and link editing worked as expected.

A related problem (which I had also posted about in a separate thread here https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/hyperlink-hover-highlight-color) is that multiple links within the same text box caused the hyperlink 'hover' to become a solid opaque box.

To fix that issue, in addition to putting the links in separate text boxes I also had to make sure it was also in its own paragraph...that is, if there was a paragraph of just text, then a second sentence which contained a link, the hover on that link would be opaque (obscuring the link completely). If I moved that second sentence to its own text box, the hover effect would be as designed, a paler color of the link itself.

Thanks to you both--all of that was really helpful!

The first issue you mentioned is one we have on our radar for Storyline 360. We've seen that when adding a new hyperlink to a list within one text box, the new hyperlink inherits the hyperlink from line above. We're working through this issue, and hopefully using separate text boxes will work for you in the meantime.

For the second issue you mentioned, I created a sample file in Storyline 360.  Take a look at that link, and let me know how that is different than your file. I'd be interested in finding out the color you used for hyperlinks. To find out, click the Design tab >> Colors >> Create New Theme Colors >> Hyperlink color dropdown >> More colors

Here's the color I used in my file: #0000FF

Hi Alyssa,

I, too, am eager to know of a fix for what seems to be glitchy behavior in Storyline 360 when I have multiple hyperlinks in a text box.

It seems that I can fix one hyperlink and when I republish, another one breaks.  Are there others who have experienced this as well?

Thanks for any insights into this situation.

Sorry that's happening, Jan! Are you using Storyline 360 as well?

This problem happens when you add a new line to a list of hyperlinks. The new line inherits the hyperlink from line above. Is that what you're seeing, too?

To work around this bug, folks have had success with using separate text boxes for each hyperlink. Some have also used hotspots for hyperlinks instead of using the Insert Hyperlink button.

I'm hoping that this is being fixed since I am also dealing with this problem. I would like to avoid multiple text boxes since I am making a menu with the links that is hidden of slide when not in use. Adding Hotspots would require me to add additional state triggers so that the Hotspots do not trigger when the menu is not visible on the page.
