Blurry images and text - still no fix?

Feb 27, 2019

So I know this has been discussed a million times just by doing a Google search, but is there any fix for images coming out blurry in preview, and more importantly in publish?  It is also making text blurry that has been entered straight into SL.

I have followed all of the best practise steps, even set it to classic player with a fixed optimal size, but all the images still come out blurry in my HTML5 output.  Flash is perfect, but then we can't use Flash due to its lack of browser support now.

I have designed and built all of the graphics in my courses to fit exactly in my slides so that I don't have to resize them, etc so I know that isn't causing a problem.  Image output quality is set to 100%, and I have even tried the hack of replacing the published images afterwards with the high quality originals, but it makes no difference, so obviously there is something in the code that is causing this.

5+ years and still no fix? Makes we want to go back to Captivate :(

Below is 2 images I am talking about.  The right one is the original PNG file and is perfect quality for what I need.  The left one is taken from my published course (classic player with fixed optimal size).  There is a huge difference between the 2.  I can't be expected to give this to my clients!

Hi David,

Our team has been working on the blurry text and image issues that appeared with Storyline 360 (and Storyline 3) around update 65 of Google Chrome ( Chrome version 72 is the latest). I know that it's frustrating since it's been going on for a bit, but I can assure you the team is hard at work determining the best solution, that will also be long term as Chrome continues to update.

We'll keep you posted here, and if you have any samples you want to ensure our team sees and uses as a part of testing, please feel free to send those directly to our Support Team.

Thanks for the reply Ashley.  You know what, I never even thought to check it in another browser.  I've just checked it in IE11 and it all looks fine.  I'll see if its doing the same with my videos which are also blurry.

Glad to know its being worked on and hope there is a fix for it soon as Chrome is the primary browser for a lot of clients.

Edit: Videos are still blurry in IE, so that must be something else :)

Hey David. I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 26 for Storyline 360! Here are all the details.

We addressed an issue where text and images could be blurry when viewing a course in Google Chrome or Safari.

Here’s how you can update Storyline 360 to take advantage of everything the latest release has to offer. If you need more help, please let me know!

Thanks for the update. I can say that in IE 11 that the published content is indeed a lot more crisp, although a new issue has developed that will probably not affect everyone.

I've attached a file that is a wip, and if you look at the bar on the far right when published you will notice that there is a gap between it and the rest of the bars. I really enjoy the crispness of the objects, but the gap is a bit annoying. I could compensate for that in SL, but future updates could require me put it back.

I will also be making separate versions for 3 to 11 bar pages, so this is something I would rather avoid. Hopefully a future update will resolve this for IE 11.

Hi there, Ron. I noticed that this behavior was happening in both updates 25 and 26 of Storyline 360, and I saw the gap in Chrome as well as IE. Overlapping groups 12 and 11 by a pixel helped your project as a temporary fix. Let me know what you see here.

I'm going to bring up this behavior with my team to better understand why the object is not aligning at the end of the motion path. We'll keep you posted on the status of this issue!

Hey everyone! I've been following the various threads for image blurriness issues in Articulate for a few days, and the latest update seems to have corrected it for the most part on my end as well. Not completely though, images still look clearer for me in the workspace than in previews and the published capsules. Is the Articulate team still working on this following the latest update?

Alyssa Gomez

Hi Zynor,

Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad the blurriness issues were mostly resolved in the latest update.

Regarding the blurry images you're still seeing, do those images have animation applied to them? I'd love to share a sample file with our Product team, if you don't mind sending yours.

You can share that file with me privately by clicking here!

Hi Everyone,

Good news! We fixed the issue in Storyline 360 where videos are blurry/pixelated when viewed in IE11.

Here's how to install the latest Storyline 360 update to see all the recent enhancements and fixes.

If the problem reappears, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me or connect with a support engineer, and we'll be happy to help!
