Bringing Content "IN" instead of hyperlinking "OUT"

Apr 28, 2015

I have a soft skill, interpersonal, and self-reflection card game that I am trying to convert to an electronic game.  Here is the play of game in person.  Choose a number between 1 and 70.  Turnover the corresponding card with that number.  Look at the card (it is a graphic or picture) and answer questions about that card.   This is repeated up to 3 to 6 times on the game board.  In Storyline parlance, 1. WHAT HAPPENS-a picture is brought into position one, two, three, four, or five on the slide from another slide, layer, or asset in the course.  2. WHERE IT HAPPENS-on the current slide, which is a replicated picture of the game board in position 1, 2, 3 etc. 3. WHEN IT HAPPENS-when the user types in a number between 1 and 70 and returns, clicks a submit button or whatever to get the software to understand a number has been entered.

Basically, I want the user to pick a random number between 1 - 70. Type that number into a box, and Storyline goes out and gets the corresponding picture object labeled with that number and brings it into position 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. on the game board slide.  Then a few self-reflection questions are asked that the user can hand write or type into an essay question box.  Then, the user picks another number between 1 -70, types that into a different box on the game board layout, and Storyline goes out to get the card object with that number and brings in into position 2 on the game board slide.  This happens up to 6 times on the game board.

Can Storyline or Storyline2 do this? And if so, how? I have looked at several variables, triggers and can't find anything that goes out, gets a course object (any object-movie clip, audio clip, shape, picture etc.), and delivers it up to the current slide in a certain position.

Thanks for writing back Ashley.  If Storyline 1 or 2 doesn't do this it is definitely something worth adding.  I, actually, would use this function more than hyperlinking or going to another slide. Bringing content in to the current slide, and having it land in a specific position increases continuity of the material.  I love Storyline and wish it did this.  Do you know if Storyline would accept script that I paid to have written to do this?
