Bullet points change

Nov 16, 2017

Dear all,

when importing a translated document all bullet points change. This appears when using customized bullet points. Now if you have a big articulate project using bullet points at each slide and translating this in 5 different languages this is really much time I have to invest in changing this.

So is there any solution? BR Lisi

Hi there, Lisi.  Can you tell me what format you're using when exporting your slides for translation:  Word or XLIFF?  Also, please let me know what update of Storyline 360 you're using.  You can go to Help > About Articulate Storyline.

Our last update to Storyline 360 addressed an issue with bullet points missing after importing the translated XLIFF document, so I want to make sure that issue is truly resolved.

Thanks for those details, Lisi!

I gave this a test in Storyline 360 v 3.10.13923.0, and I made a quick recording of my findings here.

Here's what I found:

  • When exporting from Storyline to Word, the custom bullets were lost.
  • When importing from Word to Storyline, the custom bullets were retained.

After watching the recording, can you let me know if you're seeing the same thing that I'm seeing? Keep me posted!

Hi Alyssa,

thank you for the screen recording. But I'm not sure if the problem is clear: when exporting for translation, means creating the word document the custom bullet points get lost. That's the fact.

I do not want to have this kind of weekly extra-work to change the bullet points again after importing. Not in the articulate file nor in the word document. I know that it's possible to change it again, but it's not my goal. I just want the same bullet points after importing, that's all    :-)

That's a case of usability.  BR Lisi

You're absolutely right, Lisi. That's a bug in our software, and I've reported it to our team. I wanted to share the screen recording of my testing to make sure you weren't seeing any other problems, as well.

I'm really sorry this is slowing down your workflow, and I'll be sure to let you know if we get an update on this bug. Thanks again for bringing it to our attention.

Hi Lisi,

Thanks for checking in with us!

Our team discussed this just prior to the holidays so a bit delayed getting back to you. It seems that anything outside the black circle bullets requires additional support and integration with Word. It's not something currently on our roadmap to rewrite - but if anything changes with that we'll certainly let you know.

Hi Lisi!

I appreciate your help in troubleshooting this issue!

I'm excited to share that we've released Storyline 360 (Build 3.49.24347.0), which includes a fix for the issue where bulleted and numbered lists weren't displayed properly when importing a translation.

To take advantage of this new feature and other fixes, make sure to update Storyline 360 in the Articulate 360 Desktop App. Here are the steps!
