Can a persons voice, a button, and a layer be synced together?

Dec 15, 2014

I want to be able to have the voice start when I click a button, and I want my button to go to the layer where the material is displayed.  So when the user clicks the button the voice for the second layer begins. Is this possible in Storyline? If so can someone help me?

Thank you in advance. PS. I'm a visual learner so if you can send me an example that would be great.

Hey, Maree.

This is very doable, and I've attached an example from a course I built that does exactly what you're trying to accomplish.

Take a look at the triggers I've created when I user clicks on each of the three icons. A user clicks on the first icon, and that opens a new layer that plays the audio narration. I prevent the user from opening other layers, but you can opt not to depending on how you'd like the learner to navigate.

You can also set it up where the user can interact freely with those layers. If you take this route, be sure you select "Hide Other Slide Layers" so you don't hear multiple narrations from multiple layers playing at once.

Let me know if this helps.

Dear Ashley - I notice that you monitor /patrol this site which is great. However if you had let Cody answer my question he would have told me that variables had nothing to do with voice being assigned/sync'd to his buttons. But instead I felt like you cut me off referred me to variables (because I asked about them - Cody would have told me I was going down the wrong path) which sent me on a wild goose chase. Although I did learn something about variable and I'm happy about that.  I just think you could have been more helpful. And yes I did learn how to sync my voice to my buttons and layers and it's a lot easier than I thought it would be.

All due respect.
