Can Storyline 'grade' text entry responses

Feb 23, 2017

I have a 2-tier question:

  1. Does anyone know if it's possible for Storyline to evaluate a learner's text entry answer?
  2. If so, can it recognize slight deviations from the exact spelling of the correct answer?

Using the screenshot below and item 2 for reference, I would like for the learner to be able to type 'Valuation and allocation' or something very similar and it be counted correct.  Likewise, if SL doesn't recognize what the user types, it's incorrect.  Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Hi there Paula!

Yes, this is definitely doable with Storyline! Something to consider, though, is whether you want all of the text entries on one slide, or if you'll use only one text entry per slide.

If you'd like Storyline to evaluate multiple text entries on one slide, take a look at the demo file Wendy created here, specifically Slide 2. On slide 2, Wendy added multiple text entries with multiple answer variations for each entry.

If you'd rather put only one text entry per slide, I would use Storyline's built-in Text Entry question. With that set-up, you also have the option to use multiple answer variations for each text entry box.

Give that a try, and let me know how you make out! If you get stuck along the way, feel free to attach your file here, and I'd be happy to take a peek at it. :)
