I need to create some video training's and i am curious if story-line can be useful for this project. The video training would consists of text/animation slides and screen recorded sessions as well. My hope is that the target user's can view the entire project as a video file using some windows media player.
There is no built-in option that lets you publish a storyline project as a video. You could publish your project, run it and then record it with some screen recording tool, such as Camtasia, Replay, ScreenFlow, etc. and save that recording as a video.
When we need to make videos like that we use Powerpoints export to video feature. Publishing Storyline as a course, then running the course and screen capturing is a really inefficient use of time.
I know that's not the ideal solution but it works.
As Micheal mentioned there is no option in Storyline to export to a video file, but using another screen recording tool would allow you to capture it. It may not be a perfect set up, but I know a number of users have mentioned they use it.
Shannon, make sure the audio source in your software is set to pick up only your computer's audio, and not your mic, unless you want to narrate also. Also a good idea to close any other apps that might make any noise. Camtasia has an audio meter that lets you select your source and see the levels. It's always good to run a short test to check out before running through your entire course.
As Mike mentioned you'll want to make sure it's picking up the computer audio - or if it's picking up the mic, the background noise from the environment and hearing the sounds from the speakers may be a bit much.
Hi sorry, you're right it's not an option, but when you publish for the web, one of the files that gets outputted is an swf file. At least that is the case with SL2. That file can presumably be imported to a video editor.
Hi I'm back for some reason I thought I had this working moved on to other projects came back and it didn't work. I don't see in replay where I have the option to change it to my computer audio.
Also It shows I am on a trial period with replay and when I enter my storyline key the activate button stays grayed out. I am wondering if I do not have the full capabilites because it is in free trial mode.
Hi, Shannon -- Thanks for your question and sorry to hear you are having issues! As for the question you had pertaining to your Reply serial number, it would be a separate serial number than the one you have for SL2. Can you please check for an email around the time that you activated your Replay trial? If you continue to have issues locating the serial, I will see what more I can do to get that information for you. Please also note that all trials of our software are full versions with the same capabilities available as you would see with the purchased version.
With respects to your question on using the computer audio, I am not sure if this thread will hit the nail on the head exactly, but please take a look at let me know if that helps or if you still need further assistance. :)

Hi,
Thank you both it worked it was for the computer and worked great :)
Thanks for the update Shannon.
Can't you just publish an swf file and then import that swf file into windows movie maker and render it as any video format you need?
Hi Allan,
Storyline doesn't have a publish to SWF option.

Not something I could offer support or guidance for - but perhaps it would work. :-)
Well it isn't something I've tried before, but it should work. I'd be interested to find out if anyone else has tried it.
