I have found that if I highlight all the text in the caption, click on the shadow button (as if I was adding a shadow), and then click on it again, the shadow disappears.

Does that work for you?
Ooh!
Yes - that works..
I wonder what other features there are hidden away where you have to do something completely counter-intuitive like that?
I only discovered it because when things aren't displaying as I like, I get frustrated click click click buttons like a mad person. Most times I just end up making my problem worse, OR I forget what I clicked to solve my issue.
In this particular instance, the crazy click formula actually worked.

Please could you put together a short Screenr on this, as I am sure others would find is as useful as I have !
Could you Kristin? Because I must be doing something wrong. I'm highlighting the text but it's still just effecting the shape itself. Maybe there is a different shadow button I should be using...
I'm a little late to the party but wanted to say "Thanks" to those who provided the answer. I was cursing at my screen for a bit with this one. Extra special thanks to Bruce since I was unaware of the Shadow Button icon on the Home tab. I was looking for it everywhere /other/ than the right place - so the screencast really helped

Hi - looks very much like this is a pre-set, personally I hate shadow text with a vengeance...
If it is, could always go for the old "create another text box and drop it over the top" workaround?
Definitely a feature request - text should be formattable (sp?) just like any other text.
Bruce
PS - hope I am wrong and there is a way to do it!
I highly dislike the shadow too!!

I'm excited to know an option is out there tho!
Are you using the shadow button on the Home tab in the Font box?
Otherwise, I agree that a Screenr is a good idea.
Here you go Natalia!

Well done Bruce
Hurray!!! Huge thanks to both of you!
Bruce, I could listen to you tell me how to do taxes.
