Captions not working when publishing

Sep 06, 2018

Hi

I am building a course on storyline 360. After adding the closed captions in the audio files, it works on the preview; however, it is not working on some of the slides when I publish it and acts weird on some slides as it goes under the pictures as if they were on a buttom layer. I published it more than once to see if it was a bug and it is the same.Is there a trigger or something that could be missing?

Thanks

Thanks for joining the community, Amanda!

Strange that the problem is happening after publish, but not in Preview. Have no fear, as we're here to help you solve this oddity! First, can you tell me where you're hosting the published output–LMS, Web server, or somewhere else?

Next, could you share the .story file with us here, so we can take a close look? Here's where you can share it privately. We'll run some tests and let you know our findings!

Hi Alyssa!

I'm using Classic Player. It seems that the issue is happening only in
Chrome and only when Publishing to Articulate 360 (review link).

When I copy the share link produced from publishing to 360, it works in
Firefox and Edge, but not Chrome.

It works in the LMS (in all browsers, including Chrome).

I have attached some screenshots for you.

Thanks for your assistance!

Hey, Wes!

It looks like you meant to attach a few screenshots to your reply, but they didn't come through. Could you click this link to open the discussion, then attach those screenshots to a new reply? If you could also share your Articulate Review link, that would be helpful, too.

I created a sample file that contains a video with closed captions, and I used the Classic Player. Do you see the closed captions when you view this Articulate Review link in Chrome?

Alyssa,

Sorry about that - just checked the email and the attachments were there ... not sure why they didn't come through. Anyway, I have attached the PDF below.

Here is the review link:

The captions worked fine in the video you sent me using the Chrome browser.

Hi Wes,

Now we're seeing the problem -- the captions seem to disappear when the browser window is maximized. If you slowly reduce the size of the browser window, you'll see the captions come into view.

Our team is looking into this bug as we speak, and I'll keep you posted as I know more. So sorry for the headaches it is causing you!

Hey folks. I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 21 for Storyline 360! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where closed captions sometimes disappeared in HTML5 when using the classic player.

Here’s how you can update Storyline 360 to take advantage of everything the latest release has to offer. Let me know how you make out!

Hi Aja,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing what you are working on in your project.

We recommend adding your closed captions to your project file and re-publishing:

Importing Closed Captions for Narration and Videos

Creating and Editing Closed Captions with the Built-In Editor

Perhaps someone in the community will be able to chime in with some additional ideas that worked for them, but we do not recommend modifying the published output.
