CD problem

Sep 06, 2013

Hi all,

I'd like to create an offline course on CD/USB, which contains presentations, pdf documents, videos etc.

I created the main menu, and the learning material which are working perfectly, but...

I can't open a folder contains many files from menu (with pushing a button) ...is it possible? (If I pick/mark one as a trigger, others wont be avaiable when I publish)

How should arrange/link my files, to be reachable after publishing?

Thanks for your advices.

Robert

Hi Robert,

Are these weblinks and PDFs linked within your Storyline file, or just existing in addition to it on a CD with the Storyline file?

If they're within your Storyline file, and you happen to be using Windows Vista or later, you may be encountering enhanced security in these operating systems, which can prevent attachments from opening.  To avoid this enhanced security, do either of the following:

  • Right-click the Launch_Story.exe file (for Storyline projects) or the Launch_Presentation.exe file (for Presenter presentations), and select Run as administrator.
  • Or, turn off User Account Control (UAC). Here's how: Windows 8Windows 7Windows Vista

Worth a shot...

You mentioned creating a CD menu where you've listed all the external links, pdfs, etc. - but they're also included in your Storyline file, correct? So, does your Launch_story.exe file launch your course, and you're just unable to open the links from within the course?

I'm just trying to understand more about what's happening - can you possibly share your .story file and one of the PDFs with us here and I'll give it a try on my end? If you'd prefer to not post it in the forums - you can also submit it as a Support case.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for sharing the file with me. I published your original output, and was able to get to the weblinks that are included on the right hand side with the buttons (image below).

I was not able to open the files that you had linked though, so I went back to look at where they were pointing, and it indicated they were pointing to your D: drive. So I tried to relink the PDF you sent me to the button for "CV Maker" (I didn't know exactly where it belonged) and made sure I linked from my C: drive, published for CD again - and it opened successfully. I've included a copy of the zipped output for you to test as well.

Hi Robert,

You may want to review the following items -

Storyline Requirements

Publishing and Sharing Storyline

Publish for Web, and test on something like Tempshare or in Dropbox as mentioned in the previous article

Let us know if you're able to look into those, and get any different results. Additionally, if you'd like to have our Support team work with you further you can connect with them by opening a case.  You'll want to reference this thread so that they know what you already tried.
