change default font on Notes section?

Jan 10, 2020

Hi. Is there a way to change the default font for the Notes tab of the player? If so, how. Thanks in advance!

Hello all!

Good news! In Storyline 360 (Build 3.85.31840.0), you can now instantly update the formatting of all slide notes in your project.

From here, all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!

If you run into any issues, please don't hesitate to reach out to our Support team in a support case.

I'll also add my vote to the feature request but chiming in here as well so say that this really should be fixed. At the very least the default should be changed from 9 to 12. Many of us are required by law to create accessible courses and regardless of law we should all be striving for inclusion in the way we build them. It would be great to make it easy to change setting that would work for the whole course, but just changing the default to size 12 would help enormously and save a lot of time.

Hi Kristen,

Thank you for reaching out and I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments with our team, and the importance of this feature. Although currently, I don't have an update right now, I’ll go ahead and include your voice in the feature request. We’ll update this discussion if this feature makes it on our feature roadmap.

I have seen questions going back 10 years on this, and it was indicated a decade ago that this was on the features update list. This is an absolute time-waster for designers. My current project has about 700 slides and I have to touch each one of them in the notes section. I truly have better things to do.

This is absolutely ridiculous! YEARS of pretty-pleasing and STILL... No updates yet. I don't give a darn if you "add my comments to the Feature Report," as it appears nobody cares about that just as they don't seem to care about how many times users beg for this to be changed. It makes NO SENSE that nobody there can see how important THIS FEATURE IS. We get all these tiny adjustments or changes to things that hardly matter on a frequent basis - but the ONE thing that has been requested here (again for YEARS)... NADA! You guys CLEARLY have determined a priority-level for this request that is BASS ACKWARDS. Because if anyone was appropriately measuring impact there - it wouldn't take long to figure out something that saves users 20-30 minutes per project was low-hanging golden fruit that's bound to be an instant crowd pleaser! I mean imagine - 20-30 minutes spent by thousands of users PER PROJECT just for STINKING SLIDE NOTES! I fail to see any viable reason why this hasn't been delivered by now. And on top of all that, nobody who responds seems to care about providing one. Just "nothing yet guys, but don't worry - we've added your comments." I would venture to say that it may be time to close out the ump-teen year request you've been using and open a new one that goes straight to the top of the line! I mean I'm sure your request platform has changed numerous time since the existing request was first logged. And if it hasn't, I'm sure leadership has. And if neither have changed - I'm back to no friggin reason why this hasn't been done. I mean come on guys, it shouldn't be difficult to grasp why uniformity in notes between slides is sorta important!

It baffles me that the default font for Notes is still too small in size and has too little contrast in color. A lot of my time is spent overcoming the Gray Lato 9 font, going slide by slide.

I am glad that Articulate is putting so much improvement into the accessibility features of Storyline, but making the default Notes font settings changeable, or at least updating them to something better, would go a long way to improving accessibility.

Theresa Ainsworth

Agreed, this is the simplest request. Accessibility is so important. In my industry, accessibility is required. This is a really straightforward ask. Accessibility by default is so important. In the medical profession, the first rule is do no harm. For designers that are just learning about this, they may not know the optimal minimum font size for legibility. Your company does, and could make a big difference. Please prioritize this. Help us ensure we reach our entire learner population by default.

Will Findlay

This would be such a huge timesaver. For accessibility, we include a written transcript of our modules in the notes panel so one of the current tedious tasks on every project is making the notes panel legible. The other problem we have is that when these are imported from PowerPoint, the notes invariably come in as black text over a black background. So another task we must perform is changing all the notes text to white text.

Marnie Vanderlaan

Ugh, yes. Exactly why I posted this almost 2 years ago (8 years before other users posts with the same ask)… and still nothing, not even their canned response saying they have taken the issue to their programing team. So frustrating!

For your transcript, my work around is making the player background “light” instead of dark, and in the section where you can customize the words in the player, I change the “notes” text to “TRANSCRIPT”. Then check that tab in the player.

It’s brutal. In January 2025 (Canada) we have to be legally accessible across the board. The default 9pts and grey font is not compliant to accessibility.

Come on Articulate – do better. This should have been done way before you started playing with the Beta AI stuff.

Amen! I don't think companies realize that all these announcements about incorporating AI are infuriating when users feel there is low-hanging fruit (like improving the ability to format Notes text) that would make a bigger difference in solving their current issues. It just gives the impression that marketing is dictating the dev plan.
