Change question identifier to custom

Hi Martin,

Storyline reports a series of data to your LMS as outlined here, and what you're seeing is a part of that data including the type of question, if the user answered it or not, etc. 

To send question text to your LMS, you'll need to publish for SCORM 2004 or Tin Can API (also called Experience API or xAPI).

Maybe I didn't phrase my question clearly enough. What I would like to know is:

Can I change the question identifier, e.g. Scene1_Slide2_ShortAnswer_0_0, to something of my own choosing, e.g. "feedback on XX"? Or if this is not possible, then the question text or activity name?

Hi there, Martin.  The question slides you're using should have a title text box or a question text field.  If it doesn't, you can switch to a layout that includes the title box.  Enter the identifying information in that title box, and it should be reported to your LMS.

Can you test that and let me know if it works? 

If not, with your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here.  I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Thanks for offering your help. I've tried your suggestions but it didn't really work. Perhaps the problem is that I am trying to send text strings to the LMS, and it seems that I need a freeform slide to do so? Anyway, I have uploaded the file for you to take a look at. Looking forward to hearing what you find out!

Changing the identifier is not possible but I have seen a couple of posts where users have used javascript to do this.

I noticed in your file that in Form View, almost all of the question text was "Address 2," even though you had named your slides individually.  When I published for SCORM 2004 and hosted in SCORM cloud, this is how those interactions were identified:

So I still saw the Interaction Id,  "Scene1_Slide3_ShortAnswer_0_0", but I could see the question text "Address 2," or "Name 1."  Are you getting the "Address 2" text in your LMS reporting?

I changed the Form View question text to match the slide title, and I could then more easily identify the answer fields:

I'm not sure if your LMS will also include that question text in your reporting, but SCORM Cloud is a good indicator of what Storyline is sending.  Let me know if that helps!
