Changed proportions in a project

Jul 08, 2013

Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me with a project that has changed its proportions when I changed computers.

I had a finished project recorded at 1500 x 900 and everything fitted, images, text, screen recordings etc. then my computer died, no problem I had backups for everything. I reinstalled Storyline on to the new machine, copied all the files in their original folder structure into "My Articulate Projects" folder. The only difference in the computers is that the new one has an SSD drive for the operating system and a secondary drive for data so the "My Articulate Projects" folder is located at

"D:\Users\User Name\My Documents\My Articulate Projects" instead of

"C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\My Articulate Projects" as with the original computer.

Any way Storyline now defaults to 1200 x 800 and absolutely nothing lines up, I change the dimensions within the project and still nothing lines up.

Where does Articulate store the dimensions for a particular project?

Anyone got any ideas how I can fix this?

Appreciate any help

Thanks Adrian

Welcome to the community, Adrian!

That sounds a little strange. Generally, changing computers or working with a different installation shouldn't modify the size of an already created project.

I don't think that drive will cause this type of issue, but if you want to make sure, you can try placing the .STORY file for the project onto your desktop and see if the size is different.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Another thing you might want to check is the DPI settings for the machine. Storyline doesn't currently support 120 DPI. If your system is set to 120 DPI, you may experience erratic behavior, such as:

*  Elements of the application are misplaced or distorted.

*  Objects are misplaced or distorted when previewed or published.

*  Zoomed images don't work as expected.

*  Font sizes are incorrect after using the translation features.

Here's how you can switch to 96 DPI

As for the dimensions, or Story Size, you can change this by clicking on "Design" and "Story Size".

If that doesn't fix the problem, please just let me know.

Thanks and welcome again!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for that, the old machine was set at 100% 96 DPI and the new computer had a factory setup at 125% or 120DPI and I had not changed it.

After changing it to 100% everything works and is lined up perfectly, thanks for your speedy and informative reply, you saved me days in having to re-align everything
