I would like to use the restricted player option to keep my users from jumping ahead in the course. Is there some way to "gray out" menu entries that are not available or give the user some feedback that hey can't jump forward? Right now every menu entry looks the same and nothing happens if the user clicks a title that they can not access.
Hopefully someone in the community will be able to chime in and assist you with your design here.
You could include some type of beginning tutorial or information about the course and how to navigate for the user. You could choose to not display the menu to the user if they cannot utilize the functionality as well. Check out this tutorial.
