I am having a bit of trouble getting the web object to behave the way I intend it to behave. Currently i am trying to add a web object from my local machine using the folder next to the address bar on the edit Web Object screen. Right now storyline allows me to select the folder from which i would like to pull the web object, but i can't drill down to pick the actual .html file i would like it to use for this particular web project. Is there any way I can select the .html file storyline pulls?
Are you able to see the HTML file you'd like to use if you navigate to the folder that contains it outside of Storyline, perhaps by using Windows Explorer? If you can't see the file, it may be hidden - and that may be why you're unable to see it when searching for the file through Storyline.
If you are able to see it outside of Storyline, it may help to take a peek at this post.
I am able to see the .html files outside of storyline, however the attached post didn't seem to help. Maybe I can explain to you exactly what I am trying to do:
I am trying to add a web object that contains a PDF in which i can deep link (take the user directly to a specific section of the PDF). The easiest way to do this is by using an online PDF- however I am having trouble with the PDF web object. When I publish and upload to the LMS the Online PDF web object does not load.
I also tried keeping the PDF locally and writing a redirect that allows the PDF to be read as a .html file. This allows the PDF to load within the web object, but does not let me deep link into the PDF. The other issue with this is that there could be times when i need to put multiple PDFs in one scene.
Any insight?
Ideally I would like to link to an online PDF by copying the URL into the insert web object window.
Hmm. Only thought that comes to mind is the LMS loading the PDF - is the PDF also uploaded to the LMS servers? Can you open that PDF by navigating to the link for it, outside of Storyline? If so, then I don't see why it wouldn't load in the course.
If the PDF is not loading when it's being hosted by the LMS, perhaps you could use a different server to host it. Dropbox is an option, if you have any experience with that.
What about embedding it? Mike Enders posted a suggestion that might work for you:
