Classic vs. Modern Players

Aug 26, 2019

Hello, Articulate community,

We are running into a problem with our courses playing on Apple devices if we publish with the Modern player. It is possible that the issue is with our LMS (BisTrainer). Before I contact them for troubleshooting, I would like to know what the differences (other than cosmetic) are between the Classic and Modern players.

It says that the Modern player publishes in HTML 5 only and that the Classic one publishes in HTML 5 with Flash fallback. However, if we publish with the Modern player, the Apple device error message is that it requires Flash to play.

This does not make any sense at all. This is why I need to know the technical differences between the two players.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Hey Alain,

That is odd that you would be seeing that message when publishing a course using the Modern Player.

You are correct that one of the main differences between the Classic Player and the Modern Player is that the Modern Player is published for HTML5-Only Output. Courses that use the modern player don’t have any Flash content.

If you need our help to take a look at your file,  we're always more than happy to help! If you are able to share your .story file, I can review your course in a different LMS environment to see if the same behavior persists.

You can share files in this thread here or send them privately to our Support Engineers. We'll let you know our findings and will delete it after having a closer look.

Russell,

I went through all the courses and noticed that a few of them did not have that option on in the Configure/Options panel. Even though I did select the "Uses HTML 5 Code on the SCORM file upload panel. Makes me wonder what that button actually does.

Looks like I have to add another step to make sure I check that too. Tested a few and it seems to be working now.

Thanks for the help,

Alain

PS: Who are you with?

I'm not sure what that Uses HTML 5 Code upload check box is supposed to do. So I always double check that it is toggled on in the Configure/Options panel.

I started working with OE 955 in their training department. Now I work for Knowledge Integration Group Global. http://www.kigglobal.com/

We are a BIS network partner. We help sell their system. Then we manage the system for our clients and build courses and Digital Forms for them.

When it's slow at work, I try to help out here in the forums.
