Compress the Story file size after swapping videos

I am helping a client with a project that involves video. We have a template for all videos. When the videos have to be changed, I need to swap out the new video for the old one. This is pretty straight forward.
The issue is the file size of the Story file remains the same. This is a problem because the vendor who launches the files has a limit for the ZIP file of 500 Mg.
In this example, I have a story file that is 783 mg and when I delete the videos it is still 782 mg. Why? If I then swap in the videos it will be over a gigabyte. Even if I use Handbrake to make the videos smaller, the overall size of the project will still be too large.
Any solution that keeps the Story file and Zip low as possible is great.

Sometimes I answer my own questions. In taking the next step of swapping out the newer and smaller videos, the Story file size did change once I saved the new file.
