What we really need is a connector (elbow) line, like in Visio or PowerPoint. I constantly have to use lines for flowcharts / tables etc and even after aligning they never really 'connect' very well.
The attached was done in PowerPoint, and Visio has an equivalent: Just click to create the two end-points, then drag to where they go. So much quicker and easier than what is now required by Storyline. And also look better.
Please put in a feature request if this is not already on the list. And I would be surprised if it is not, because Storyline has done such a good job of replicating the familiarity of the PowerPoint user interface. It just neglected to include this feature from the Insert > Shapes ribbon.

Have you tried grouping the object? Here is how to do that:
Select the objects you want to group using Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click, then do any of the following:

It would make it faster for selecting, formatting and scaling, etc. and the lines would look good at the connection points easily.
