Consistent courses

I am creating a series of courses and would like to use the same styles of buttons, graphics, colors.....

I have a template for the background and color palette, so that is easy.  How do you keep track of when you use each?  For example, when did I use a green button and what size was it?  My first thought was to have two courses open and toggle between the standard and the new - but I was unsuccessful.  Then I just started doing screen shots and thought "I know some people who have this figured out"
