Copying text to clipboard from presentation
Feb 21, 2014
I need my learners to be able to copy text that shows in a published module. Although this is special, the text changes, so adding an attachment is not my solution.
I need to create a basic application, the users choose between 1 and 4 options. Depending on the button that is pressed, the text variable is changed accordingly. Once they've answered all the questions in the application they have a list of basic text that has been changed via variables based on their options. I need the learners to be able to copy this text to paste it in one of our business software applications. I'm rather savvy with SL and most of all Articulate software, I've got the text variables in place as well as the buttons, it runs beautifully but I cannot for the life of me get this text to be able to be copied to the clipboard.
Suggestions? Thanks.
Brett

add a data entry field set it to point to your variable it will be selectable it will also unfortunately be editable
This is how I originally set it up, unfortunately, you can highlight the information but not copy it to the clipboard. Thoughts?
I have just tested this and I can copy and paste from a data entry field
Gotcha, it will not copy and paste if you are using the preview, it has to be fully published. Thanks.
Hi Brett,
I just wanted to welcome you to Heroes as it looks like Phil has you covered here! Let us know if you need anything else!
I've set up a similar thing. I am able to paste INTO a text entry box but then I cannot copy the text that is there to paste it into another application (I can edit what's there but it does not allow me to select the text for copying). I am using the HTML5 output. Any thoughts?
Hi Ahlia,
Have you looked at using the Flash output to see if it behaves differently? Also what update of Storyline are you using? If testing the HTML5 output, you'll also want to confirm that you're viewing it within one of the intended browsers here.
Thanks for the quick response Ashley!
It seems I was using the wrong file. It works fine if I use the story (html) file but not if I use the story_html5 file.
Hi Ahlia,
I'm glad directing to the Flash output works as expected - and you'll only want to use the story_html5.html link if you need to force users to access the HTML5 output. Otherwise if you direct to the story.html link, Storyline will determine which version to show them based on how you published and the device they're accessing it on.
