Count up on screen using variables
Mar 28, 2018
Hi!
I'm sure I've watched a tutorial on this, but cannot find it ANYWHERE!
I want to create a counter variable on the screen, where you can see the numbers counting up on the screen (e.g. 0-30 relatively quickly).
I can only seem to get it to add to the variable in the background, not on the screen. i.e. it shows 30 straight away.
I've been able to find web based versions of this, but would like to keep it in storyline, if possible.
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for the quick reply. That's pretty much what i'm hoping to achieve.
I did find this one while i was looking, but I'm not sure if it's exactly what I need as it's web based. We have some tricky firewalls and i'm nervous about it working properly.
I'm sure i've seen a tutorial without using this, i have feeling it was lots of different triggers to achieve it, but maybe i've imagined this!
Here is another option that uses an offstage, looped motionpath animation. In this example, the count starts at 4500, but you can easily change that by setting the counter variable's default value to 0.
Hi Matthew,
How can this be implemented when some of the slides in the story are set to 'Resume saved state' ?
As I understand it this number counter code can only work if all slides in the story file are set to Reset to initial state.
Any workarounds like just restricting the reset to the slide layer? I can implement this in my story file.
Regards
Malathi
