Course Setup Issue with Grades Feeding to LMS
May 01, 2018
Hello,
I am running into an issue with a course I am building that students need to get a 100% on or they get a 0%. The course is 2 questions but the problem is if the students get the answer correct on the first slide the it is feeding 50% to the grade book even if they do not finish the course. I have a results slide that is set to 100% pass score or it makes them retry.
Any directions on how to do this or settings I might be missing that are causing grades to be fed without completion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Brandon

Hi Brandon,
Storyline is sending the score and other data to your LMS throughout your course, so it will send the score throughout as well in case you lose connection or a user was to choose to end the course at that point.
You may want to look at submitting all the questions at once, but if your LMS needs a 0 vs. 100 as the score, you could also look at passing a score based on one specific slide. You can easily mask this type of set up so that the user doesn't know it's a final question and set the selection based on how they previously answered.
If you get stuck setting up either of these, feel free to share your .story file and I'm sure someone can help take a look!
Hi Brandon,
Storyline sends this data to your LMS while a learner is taking a quiz, but it sounds like you're looking to send a custom score to the LMS if the quiz is not yet complete.
There may be a way to accomplish this using Javascript, but that's a bit beyond my expertise! Fortunately we've got quite a few folks in the community who are Java-savvy, and hopefully they'll chime in to assist. 😊
Hello,
Thanks for the advice. I decided to build it with one hidden question at the end that is worth 100 points and locking all of the other questions to only be able to progress if they get the right answer. Is there a way to change the state of an answer box once it is correct to not be editable? I put in a state to put a green lined transparent box over it once it is correct so they cannot click on it but that does not stop navigation to it via keyboard shortcuts. I am glad to hear I was not missing something on the scoring aspect. Appreciate the help.
Thanks
Brandon
Hi Brandon,
Great workaround!
Question slides should be locked by default when a learner revisits them, unless you have your revisiting properties set to Reset to Initial State. Are you finding that questions slides are not locked when you revisit them?
I have multiple fill in the blank answers on the same slide is the reason what you are referring to is not working. I think the only way I can do this from messing with it a bit is to have the questions be on different layers which are hidden once they get the correct answer and have a layer that shows the correct answer when that layer is hidden so they can still have the information to do their other calculations.
Hi Brandon,
It sounds like you have a method that'll work for you! One other thought, could you set one layer to appear over top them all, and use the option to prevent a user from clicking on the base layer? That would also prevent a user from clicking on them.
