Creating an interactive, linear contents page
Feb 14, 2013
Hi,
I am trying to create a linear contents/'landing' page for a module, but am having some trouble!
I have attached a picture of what the page looks like.
When the slides relating to one of the sections have been completed I want the corresponding circular button to change state to be 'selected'. I can only ever get this to apply to one of the buttons at a time, and it only seems to work when it appears at the end of the timeline, in which instance there is a large time lapse before it appears.
I also want the delegates have to complete the first section before they can click any of the other buttons, and so on, and I want them to be able to go back into a section they have already completed if they would like to see that section again, but haven't been able to get this to work.
Any help or instructions on how I could achieve this would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Sophie

Hi there Sophie. Welcome to E-Learning Heroes!
You should be able to accomplish this with use of some triggers and states.
Do you already have this laid out in a course? If so, can you share the .STORY file here? It may be easier to explain this, if we can take a look and show you what options may work for accomplishing this.
Hi Christine,
I have uploaded an example file which should hopefully show what I am trying to accomplish.
Many thanks!

Hi Sophie - welcome to Heroes!
Have a look at this attached .story with menu - I think it pretty much does what you want it to do, if I have interpreted correctly.
I would create custom states (I used "Completed") for the button change.
Run the course to see what it looks like - then you should be able to de-construct how it works.
Hope that helps.

Looks like Bruce beat me to it Thanks!
I used this Menu at the European Articulate Day last year.
This year - when going to the Learning and Technologies show I asked someone if they wanted to share a taxi.
After agreeing they stopped, and said "It's YOU!.. You lectured last year...there was a DUCKLING!"
So - there you have it...they did not remember the layers, triggers, variables and conditions - they remembered the cute duckling :(
I am sure there is a message for Instructional Designers there somewhere

PS - I prefer the hamster.....
That's great! Hah
Hamster = WIN. *sage nod*
The menu looks great and is exactly what I am trying to achieve. Thank you very much Bruce and Christine!
