Custom Font Themes

Nov 29, 2016

I am building a course in SL360 using a client's font, which I purchased. The font theme was imported to SL360 when I imported some slides from an SL2 file for the same client, in which the font worked just fine.

The font looks fine in "build" mode. But when I preview -- it's a mess (image attached). If I switch to one of the built-in font themes, this does not happen. I've tried deleting and recreating the custom font theme, but still get the same garbled result in preview mode. The font is part of the client's branding and I need to use it. What can I do?

Hi Rebecca,

Did you confirm that the font is installed correctly on your system? If so, did you try resetting the font within the SL360 file to ensure it's referencing the right font? You mentioned purchasing the font, so I doubt it's one you could share here with us - but is it an Open type font, True type, something else entirely?

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for responding!

I did try "re-assigning" the fonts to the theme (re-selecting them as well as creating an alternate theme with those fonts from scratch).

The same exact font (on the same PC) worked perfectly in Storyline 2; we did several courses for this client with their fonts. I just opened one of those previous courses in Storyline 2 and previewed to be sure the font works -- and it's perfect.

I am wondering if something happened during the conversion of the slides from SL2 to SL360? It would seem weird that it would only affect the font theme, though. The font is True Type.

Hi Rebecca,

If the font was applied to other elements (outside of how the theme applied it) does that work? So that it's only the items that are adhering to the theme that aren't showing correctly as a part of the upgrade? Also were you able to test out a brand new Storyline 360 file and ensure that the font applies to that correctly?

I do see an issue that was reported to our team in regards to the Feedback master font not holding from the SL2 file into an Storyline 360 upgrade. So this seems similar and I'll look at recreating the behavior to share with our QA team to investigate further.

Hi Rebecca,

I tested this out using a custom theme font I created and I wasn't able to replicate the behavior. I'm curious if you've seen it using any other fonts outside of that one you purchased? Can you let me know if it's just specific to that font - and since you mentioned having to purchase the font I suspect it's not one that you'd be able to share either.
