Can you edit out the words "Correct", "Incorrect" and "Try again" from the Feedback layouts? I notice these words appear by default when creating any of the freeform or quizzes questions. I would like to be able to have a different word instead of those or don't have it at all.

yes yo can do this. As a matter of fact you can even design your own feedback form
The ease 1 shot way is simple
Select the object you want to edit on feedback layer from your question slide and alter the object as if they are normal SL objects
This isthe multiple shot way
Right click on the feedback layer
As you can see, you can format yhe layer as if it was a normal slide
If you want to alter the existing feedback slides or create your own, yhen you have to go to the feedback master.
Create your own or alter an existing one
After which you can assign the layout to the feedback layer as shown in the picture above.
