Customized variable to record pass/fail to LMS

May 07, 2018

Hoping you can help with this customized approach we want to achieve:
We are creating a test-out assessment. Learner will be given one attempt to pass 20 multiple choice questions. If the learner passes, it will mark as complete in the the LMS; if they fail, it should be marked as 'in progress.' The course should not be marked as completed or failed in the LMS (if they fail).

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your quick response!

If the learner fails, they should not be able to go back into the assessment to retake it. Currently, if the learner fails, they can go back into the course and retry it. We were thinking of creating a screen with a message giving next steps. Would this suffice? Is there a custom variable or some sort of java script that needs to be created? Can the assessment be locked down after going through all the questions once?

The content that will need to be accessed by the learner if they fail will reside outside of this course.

Hi Carol!

How are learners currently going back to take the assessment again? Are they restarting the course from the beginning by clicking "No" on the prompt to resume window

If so, you may want to consider switching to the Always Resume setting. This will prevent the learner from starting over and taking the quiz again.

Hi,

I see what you're saying. If the learner trys to go back in (if they failed), they would be taken to a screen that says something like.'"You did not pass the assessment, please xxxxxxxxxx......." And we can use the 'Always Resume' setting so that it goes back to the same screen if they try to get back into the course. I think this will work.

Thank you for your help!
