Data Entry (Text Entry Field) Help

Oct 06, 2020

I have spent way more time on this that I should!  I am having a difficult time getting a data entry field to work properly in my Articulate Storyline 360 project.

All I want the learner to do is type a 4 (or 4.0) into a cell in order for the slide to advance.  When I add the Text or Numeric Entry field to the slide, it seems like the triggers are not populating correctly.

I don't have the option to go to the screen that allows you to add both 4 and 4.0 as correct answers.

This seems so basic and I know I have used this functionality on other projects, but I am obviously missing a step.  Can you help walk me through the steps of this?

Hi Jen,

Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you need to add a Numeric graded question slide instead of adding text or numeric entry text boxes to a regular slide.

Once you select this question type, you'll be prompted with the option to enter multiple correct answers.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you had something else in mind!

I am currently trying to do a screen recording of our new system and this cell doesn’t seem to work when I preview it. I am going to recreate the slide with just a screen shot with a text cell where they need to enter a 4 or 4.0 in order for the next slide (next part of the screen recording) to continue.

Do you think this numeric graded question option will work? I am unable to try it until later today due to multiple training sessions.

Thank you!

Jen

Hello Jen!

Thank you for sharing the extra details! It sounds like using a Text Entry freeform question will be perfect for what you're creating!

I've created a sample file for you and attached it to this reply. In the sample file, here are the steps I used:

  1. On a New Slide, I added a picture of a phone, a text box, and a numeric entry field from the Input option in the Insert tab.
  2. I moved the numeric entry field to cover part of the calculator on the iPhone screen.
  3. In the Insert tab, I selected Convert to Freeform and chose Text Entry.
  4. In Form View, I added 4 and 4.0 as the acceptable answers and then picked Numeric Entry in the Field to Evaluate.

Take a look at the sample course and let me know if you have any questions!
