Delayed audio start on Title slide only; inconsistent between users

Feb 26, 2021

Hello!  I'm experiencing an audio delay of several seconds on the first slide only (in both Review and once published) even though my audio is pulled to the very beginning of my timeline and should only have a 0.5 second lag before I start speaking.

The funny thing is, two people on my team are able to replicate the issue (consistently, each time we pull up course from scratch) and the audio starts right up on first try for several other people on my team - so not consistent from one user to the next.

I've found several previous threads mentioning similar issues but all of them 2-3 years ago.

I've added pics of what my timeline looks like plus another pic of where the audio is actually starting. I've removed auto-advance based on suggestion from another thread, have cleared cache in Chrome and have re-recorded a new .wav file just in case original was corrupted.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Bonnie,

Depending on the connection, it can take a while for the system to load media files. I've even seen animations slowed down (though that was back in the Flash days).

Here's the suggestion I received years ago and still follow: Don't start a course with audio or video. Give the system time to preload.

For example, when there's an intro video, I actually start the course with a short, static slide that says "Please wait while the course is loading." Such a slide (or short series of slides) can also be used to provide other info (e.g., tell them they should have their headsets on because there is audio in the course).

Caveat: I haven't seen recent info about how Storyline preloads a course published for HTML5 only. So I hope someone from the staff chimes in. But the above suggestion may be worth a try in the meantime.
