Delayed state change when using triggers with variables to change states
Jan 09, 2017
Hello Articulate community!
I'm working on a menu in which the following occurs:
- Learner clicks on a menu item which triggers a T/F variable for that specific menu item to set to "True."
- When learner views other sections (which are on other separate slides, and usually on a layer on that slide), if previously-mentioned variable is set to True, the previous menu item changes to a "Visited" state in the new section.
Works just fine, but there is a lag in the state change. I tried creating my own custom visited state, and the lag shortens, but there is still an obvious lag. The only solution I've found is to use shapes for the menu items, instead of what they are currently (text boxes).
Is this a glitch in SL2? The course is pretty large and the menu is complex, so I wanted to check to make sure there isn't any other better solution before changing all the text boxes to shapes!
Many thanks!

Hello Rachel!
Thanks for reaching out! It would be helpful if you could share your file here so others in the community can take a look at what you've got set up so far and assist with your custom design. If you're able to share your file, you can use the Add Attachment button at the bottom of the reply window.
This is totally happening to me in Storyline 360.
Were you able to resolve this issue?
I have attached part of my project, the first scene. The trigger and variabel T/F changes my contestant. But there is a slight lag time and I always see my "normal" contestant first.
I sent you a .zip file, I hope this is ok?
Can you help?
Thanks
Hello, Marie-Pierre!
Thanks so much for sharing your published file. If you could also send the original unpublished file, that would be super helpful!
Once we receive your file, we can open it and take a peek around to see if we can spot what's causing the problem. 🔎
I had the same issue and changed "When timeline starts" to "when timeline reaches 0 seconds, and that seemed to solve the problem.
Thanks for chiming in to share the solution that worked well for you Melinda :)
I have always had trouble with triggers and variables and so I am quite proud of myself for figuring it out! I hope it works for others! :)
Hey Melinda,
It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.
Hello Nico and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for reaching out and sharing that you ran into a similar issue and Melinda's suggestion helped you.
As you can see above, this conversation was about a year ago and I did not have a file to take a look at.
With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
