Dictionary creation - making a layer disappear when another one is selected

Apr 18, 2023

Hello everyone!

I am creating a dictionary where you'd click on one term on the left panel, and the aim is when clicking on another term the previous layer will disappear and only display the layer link to my new term. (alongside un-highlighting the button pressed for the previous term)

In my screenshot, I created to have a specific layer showing when clicking on 1, but when i click on 2 not only the layer linked to object 1 is staying but its button is also staying white as if on it. I am not seeing an option to make that layer disappear when other layer is selected + stop displaying the button highlighted without setting a timer (which i don't want since it's user pace).

any help would be welcomed!

Select all of the buttons, right-click, and choose Button Set. That ties them together so only one can be selected at any one time.  Put the white in the Selected state.

The gear down in the lower right corner (properties) will give you the opportunity to set each layer to Hide other layers, which should be set to on by default.

Hello Walt !

First and foremost thank you for jumping in !

I tried to do the above but am facing a few other issues then:

  • The button set tie doesn't seem to have worked for me, I can still have more than 1 selected (unless i didnt do it properly)
  • put all my states selected in an uniform manner
  • when i did the hide layer, the problem is that it hides even the "a" layer which I want to stay so the person can click on other terms

See if this helps. There are two options, because I'm not sure what you need to do. The "Easier" puts each letter (or set of letters) on separate slides. The "Harder" puts the entire glossary on one slide. As you may suspect, the "Easier" version is much simpler to construct. For more letters, duplicate the slides and key words and layers for "Easier". For "Harder, duplicate the layers and states. In both cases, you will need to change the contents of the text boxes and the targets of the triggers. They should both appear the same to the learner. For both of them, I set them to return to A with no definition selected, while B retains the previous selection.
