Disable slide navigation buttons but keeping the menu

Feb 20, 2024

Hi, this is my first question on this forum :)

I have created a template. For the player in the template we want the menu activated but we dont want to see the slide navigation next and previous buttons. If I turn off menu and controls, then the slide navigation buttons will never be shown but the menu is gone. If I turn on menu and controls then the menu is back but the slide navigation buttons will also be back when you turn them on for a slide. In my template slides I unchecked the Prev and Next buttons. But when I add a new slide in an existing project and I select a slide from the template, then the Prev and Next buttons are checked and so they will be shown in the player. Is there a way that the Prev and Next button are always hidden in the player while the menu is still activated, even if Prev and Next button are checked?

Is there a way that even when Prev and Next button are checked that they are hidden in the player?

I am asking this because the template will be used by different e-learning developers. Everytime they add a new slide in their project and apply the template to it, the Prev and Next button are automatically checked. So if they forget to manually uncheck then their e-learnings will have the Prev and Next button visible in the player and we do not want that as we use our own custom navigation buttons.

In fact, you should be able to only switch off the menu and seperately switch off the controls. Now you can only switch on or off the menu AND controls. You cant choose. When you switch off the controls then the menu is also switched off. It would be better to be able to switch on or off the menu and the controls seperately.

I see. You can add triggers in the Master slide to set the initial state of Prev and Next buttons to be hidden when timeline starts. This ensures that these buttons won't appear when developers add new slides.

Regarding the player settings 'On/Off,' it's designed to toggle all player elements (including tabs and controls) together, so it may not fulfill your specific requirement. I agree with your suggestion to allow separate toggles for player tabs and controls, as it could be beneficial for certain projects. However, I think the Articulate team may prioritize other feature developments, given that there are alternative methods to address this issue.

Additionally, I recommend manually unchecking the Prev and Next buttons before publishing the final production. This will allow the content area to expand more effectively, as otherwise, there may be residual space reserved for the hidden Prev and Next buttons.

I already added triggers in the master slide to set the initial state of Prev and Next button to hidden, but the white space at the bottom of the player reserved for the Prev and Next buttons stays the same. We want the white space at the bottom to be minimal so the content area expands maximum. We want this because the learning platform offers not much space to display the e-learnings.

Manually unchecking Prev and Next buttons before final production will be the way to go. Manually unchecking makes the white space at the bottom much less high so the content area expands more effectively.
