displaying check box results
Jan 12, 2016
Hi. I have a list of check box items (they are intended to be actions items) that I would like users to read and then check off the items they intend to act on (see attached photo). On the next slide I would like to display only the items they checked off. Here is what I have tried so far:
1. Creating the slide as a pick many survey. However, I can't seem to capture the results. We currently do not use an LMS per se, but we have web programmers who use javascript to capture data from slides. I was hoping to not have to go that route -- is there a way to display survey results this way within Storyline?
2. Setting up variables. I tried both T/F and text but was unsuccesful. Upon reading about variables it seemed like states might actually be what I want. (Though I still think variables might be the answer and I am just missing a key part.)
3. So I tried states, with the goal of hiding anything that was not "visited" when the user hit the return key. But I could not seem to design the right trigger.
Any thoughts on how to make this work are greatly appreciated.
Afterthought: I actually think I might just have them print out the slide that shows the entire list, checked and unchecked. BUT I am still very interested in whether or not what I initially wanted to do is possible because the SME might not want the unchecked items to be in the action items list.
If you have made it this far, thank you!!!

Hi, Adena -- Thanks for reaching out with your question! It wouldn't hurt if you could share your file so others are able to take a look at how things are currently set up. Hopefully, some members of the community will be able to stop in to offer some design advice. You are also welcome to reach out in our Building Better Courses forum to see what those folks may be able to suggest!
Hi Christie, Thanks for the suggestion. There is not much to show really since I deleted my attempts but I'll see what I can put together. Can you tell me the difference between the Storyline forum and the Building Better Courses forum (when to use one versus the other)?
Thanks again.
Hi, Adena -- Sounds great! And the basic difference between this forum and the BBC is over here we focus on more technical or issue-specific support, while over in Building Better Courses, they specialize more in design-focused queries. Hope that makes sense!
Yes it does! Thanks. I think I will see what if I get any bites on the other forum.
I would assign a T/F variable to each checkbox. Each varibale starts off as false and is toggled as the associated checkbox is selected/unselected. Then on the next slide I would set the state of checkboxes to Selected or Normal, based on the value of the associated variable. Hope that makes sense.
Michael, thank you for your help. I will try it!
Just some follow up. Michael's suggestion worked, so thanks again. This video was also helpful: https://player.vimeo.com/video/149069647
On the second slide, you might select selected or hidden, if that suits your needs.
