Drag and Drop then reset after 3 attmpts

May 02, 2023

Hi Team

I'm wanting to reset a drag and drop options after 3 attempts.  I've managed to find helpful (and also confusing) information in this thread.  However, I can't work out how to move on if they use all 3 attempts and still get it wrong, as it keeps circling back to the 'try again' option instead of the next slide.

I've attached my file.

Thanks in advance

Melissa

Hi team

I have another problem.

I have several similar slides that i created like this, but all the added slides that I created seem to not go any further when I get it wrong the first time. The 'try again' gets stuck and I can't move forward.

When I preview these slides, I have to click 'replay' and then it works.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Oh and another thing, is it possible on the 3rd attempt that it gets wrong, to show the layer 'incorrect' instead of 'try again'?

Hi Melissa!

Thanks so much for reaching out with an update! I understand how frustrating it can be not to have your slide layers display as expected and have wonky navigation issues in the mix. Happy to help!

Great news, I have found a workaround for you! 🎉

  • By resetting the value of your custom variable (TryAgain) to default at the start of each slide, you will be able to control the number of attempts. By inserting conditional formatting, you have those three attempts included and the ability to advance to the next slide.
  • Here's a glance at the triggers included in that "Try Again" Layer:

  • In order to achieve the third attempt button change that you mentioned in your last reply, I inserted a custom state that says Continue for the button text and modified the directional text the learner sees on the Try Again layer.

Here's a quick peek where I walk through the changes I implemented into your file so that you're able to advance and achieve that third attempt behavior. I will attach the updated .story file so that you're able to take a closer look!

I'm curious to see what others have tried to achieve this behavior in their courses! Looking forward to hearing what they have to say!
