Drag items with no drop targets created as distractions

Oct 27, 2020

Hi Everyone,

I am reposting an old discussion I had opened earlier (apologies)that I guess went dead because my responses were a bit far between and I was hoping I could revive it here since I have yet to find a solution to my problem.

I will explain the issue really briefly and post the link to the old discussion :

I created a fill in the blank quiz using a pick one free form to be able to provide more solutions than there are blanks as distractions from the correct answers, while emulating the behavior of the default drag and drop. With the help of Wendy, Walt and Dexter (thanks guys)I was able to get somewhere that makes much  more sense yet, my problem right now is no matter what I try I keep getting the "You must complete the question before submitting." message, which must mean I must have messed something up with the triggers which I cannot see.

Here's the link to the previous discussion:

Any help would highly be appreciated !

Thank you !

I got it to work by doing a few things.  One of your drop items was set to Drag Over rather than drop, I'm sorry, I don't remember which one.  But that was not the issue.

I created 3 new triggers for your Correct and Incorrect items.

  • Change Incorrect to Selected if ANY of the Distractors = Drop Incorrect
  • Change Incorrect to Selected if ANY of the Drag Items = Drop Incorrect
  • Change Correct to Selected ALL Drag Items = Drop Correct

That seemed to work after I converted a new version to a Pick One with a Try Again layer and set the Attempts to Unlimited (which could really frustrate your learners if they can't get past this page).  I suggest 3 or 4 attempts.  Sorry for the color coding, it was the only way I could test.

See attached.
