Drop and Drag shift

Aug 12, 2022

Hi,

I have a drop and drag interaction in Storyline 360 and there are a couple of issues:

1. When I go into preview mode, and I drag the items to their respective places they drop far above that. I can't get them to drop on the target.

2. My one picture does change states as I have triggered, the black clip picture. However, the red clip picture does not and I have them set up the same way.

I would love some help.

Thanks!

Michel

Hi, Michel.

Thank you for sharing the .story file!

1. When I go into preview mode, and I drag the items to their respective places they drop far above that. I can't get them to drop on the target.

If you look at your drag and drop options (Question Tools > Design), you'll see it's set to snap to the center of the target, which is why the objects appear higher than where the hotspot is located. If you change it to "Free", it might work better for your scenario.

2. My one picture does change states as I have triggered, the black clip picture. However, the red clip picture does not and I have them set up the same way.

The Normal and Selected states for the red clip look the same, while the black clip has a blue border around the selected state. The trigger is working, but for the red clip, it's hard to tell the difference between those states.

I hope this helps!

Maria's advice is correct. However, I wouldn't use the free option because it allows you too much wiggle room because the object bounding box is wider than the optimal target area.

  • I offer a suggestion on how to rework the clip images so you have more control over where to drop the object target.
  • The red clip has a selected state but doesn't look different that's why you don't see the state change. Also, selected isn't the appropriate state for this activity because it's a toggle and the user can turn it off and on without moving the object. I'd use a drop correct state.

I recorded a video that explains this and how I'd recommend making adjustments to your activity. Hope it helps.
