if you are using SL2, you can click the icon at the far right of the timeline tab and it will undock it from the three tab location, you can then move it where you want it. Use the View > Redock all windows to get it back to default location.
Thank you for the follow-up. I am much relieved to have the screen split into two separate screens. As a new user I have other questions, but also a deadline to get this current project out. I will either figure it out or ask for help later.
