Dumb question about scenes
May 28, 2013
Hi. I'm preparing the storyboard for a software training course at the moment. At the moment the course is 'linear', in that it starts simple with an introduction, then gradually explains more advanced tasks and functions of the software. My intention is for participants to complete the course in this linear order, without giving them the option of jumping ahead.
My question is this. Should I break the course up into separate scenes which correspond with the main TOC topics, or just have one continuous string of slides in one scene?
I have been having trouble getting my head around scenes from day 1. I still haven't figured out the best way to use them (I am a traditional, face-to-face trainer and have only picked up on e-learning recently).
Thanks for your patience.

Since your course is linear, you could break it up into difference scenes as a way to keep organized. It's really up to you how you want to use them. I, for example, might split up a course because testing out an individual scene is faster than testing the whole course each time.
Steve - I would go the topics into separate scenes model. It is easiy to establsh a lock step navigation athat limits the user to a linear progression while I fund it also helping me, the developer, in course organisation and edits.
Thanks for your input! I'll use scenes for major navigation topics, which I agree, will help organise the project.
Perhaps I was just thinking too much about scenes...
