I've noticed that many times when I try to "duplicate" a marker (using control d), the entire program shuts down and if you didn't save your work, you will lose everything from your last save. I haven't had this problem with copying and pasting a marker, but numerous times with "duplicating" the marker.

Are you working from your local hard drive or from a network drive? Working locally is always your best bet, since network drives can cause issues like these.
