Dynamic Text on Slider Thumb
Apr 19, 2019
I am working in Storyline 360 to develop a piston example. I am using sliders and some buttons to manipulate the piston up and down, but I need to also include a weight on top to illustrate more pressure in the system.
I have a graphical representation of the weight, but I also need some indication of how much weight has been added. I have tried adding additional sliders, for more "weight" but that gets unruly quickly. The same goes for additional states.
I would like to be able to display the value of a variable inside the slider thumb so that I do not have to create a bunch of states or connect multiple sliders.
Thanks.

Weighing in to see if anyone can do this. The best I've been able to do is to put a label near the slider that shows the value.
I did that in my first runthrough and thought it would work for the instructor I'm developing for. They really want the "weight" value on the weight itself though. I'm hoping someone can figure out a way to do it that doesn't involve 100 different states.
I did test out different states and custom thumb images, but the text in the images renders a bit blurry whereas the textboxes are crisp.
There is no way to make a variable reference part of the slider thumb. You can add a reference to the Normal and Hover states of a slider, but that wouldn't allow the reference to travel with the thumb. So, using states is the only option, unless you wan to try a short motionpath that moves the variable reference when the slider thumb is moved.
You create states for each position and move the reference textbook inside of the state to match the thumb, it is a lot of work though
