Editing screencasts in external software?

Jan 06, 2015

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any luck opening a screencast in some other piece of software (preferably free) that allowed for easier editing (removing portions of a recording, separating audio from video, etc). I know this type of editing isn't supported in Storyline but was hoping one of you several geniuses had come up with a work around. :-)

I often get requests from SMEs to make changes to screencasts when procedures are updated and this always requires a re-recording of the ENTIRE screencast when all that needs to be removed/edited is a few seconds of info.

As always, thanks for your help!

Hey, Stephanie.

Check out http://www.screencast-o-matic.com for an insanely easy-to-use tool to do exactly what you want. The pro tools cost $15 a year, but it's absolutely worth it if you want your SMEs to create content, make changes, and download revised MP4s in a snap.

I use this software with my SMEs to develop the type of content you're describing, and I reserve the hardcore software (Storyline, Camtasia, etc.) for myself.
