Embedded videos launch in windows media player, and not embedded in the course

Oct 23, 2014

We are publishing Storyline 1 content, and embedded videos launch in windows media player, and not embedded in the course.

Slide 2:

Insert video from website code:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://trinilearn.vo.llnwd.net/o3/RV/RV-10723/05-profile.mp4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Slide 3:

Video embedded as a web object:
http://trinilearn.vo.llnwd.net/o3/RV/RV-10723/05-profile.mp4

Please take a look at these slides in IE11 to see what I mean.   (Disregard the first slide, as it is using a 3rd party player that works).

Hello Michael!

When embedding a video in Storyline using one of the methods here we would not recommend using IFrame code that contains a direct URL to an MP4 file. Your embed code should either come from a video hosting service such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Screenr, or it can be to your own HTML URL that contains embedded video. Of course, you can always insert your MP4 file directly into your slide from a file as well.

Let us know if you need anything further.

Hi Emily!

Thanks for letting us know about simply inserting the MP4 directly in the course. We are trying to keep our courses light, so would like to have them hosted somewhere else.

I think I understand now that I cannot create my own iframe code, and that it must come from the actual hosting service. What I don't understand is why videos play correctly in Chrome, but when when viewed in IE, they launch in Windows Media Player.

Thanks!

Hello Michael!

Each browser supports playing media in a different way. Chrome, for example can play a MP4 directly, whereas Internet Explorer relies on Add-ins that  may not work properly with published output. The best way to import videos into Storyline is to use one of the methods in the link above.

Hope this helps!
