Embedding videos to begin at a specific time

Mar 28, 2023

Hello! I have a series of videos I made in Camtasia and was wondering if there was a way to embed them in Rise to begin at a certain time stamp. I saw a user discovered a solution for this using "Web Object Embed" in Storyline for YouTube videos, and was hoping there was a similar solution for in house MP4s.

Not sure if this matters, but the course will eventually be published for LMS.

Thank you!

Hey Anthony! This is a great question. Are you planning to host your Camtasia video output on a site like YouTube? If so, you can use Rise 360's "Embed" block option and just choose Share --> Embed from YouTube. On YouTube's embed dialog, you'll see an option to have it start at a specific time.

Otherwise, if you plan to just export the video from Camtasia as an mp4 and put the video in the Video Block in Rise 360, Rise is always going to play the video from the start. However, you could just export snippets from Camtasia. On your Camtasia timeline, drag the part you'd like the user to view as a short clip, then choose Export --> Produce Selection. You'll go through the normal dialog boxes of Camtasia export, but it's only going to create a video out of that short section you selected on your timeline.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the replay, Elizabeth! The Camtasia video will actually be housed on a local drive, I appreciate the insight! I figured this was the direction it would go. Do you know of any storyline capabilities that could assist with this? If not, I'll go the route you mentioned, by publishing shorter clips.

Cheers!

Yeah, you could add the video into Storyline, you'd want to just follow the steps outlined here in the jump-to-time trigger steps, then import into Rise 360 as a Storyline block! Keep in mind if you wanted to use the same video multiple times in your Rise 360 course, you'd have to duplicate the Storyline slide and have different cue points on each slide.
