Embeding Vimeo and Youtube videos in SCORM packages.

Mar 11, 2017

Hi there.

I need to embed Vimeo video in SCORM package. Also i need my students to watch at least 95% of the video to be marked completed.

Is there a way to achieve this with Articulate?

Hi. My name is Nikolas Stylianides.

I have a Moodle deployment and i need to add SCORM activities.

My videos are on Vimeo (i have a paid subscription with domain restrictions).

I also need to verify that my trainees have watched at least 80% of the video. What i would like you to inform me is:

1. Is what i need doable using your solution?

2. What is the cost?

3. Will i need any extra software libraries or cloud services?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Nikolas!

  1. Yes, what you are looking to do is absolutely doable in Storyline. Follow these steps to embed the Vimeo video in the slide. Then, you can set the length of the slide timeline to match the length of the video. To ensure your learners watch at least 80%, you can use triggers to disable the next button until the timeline ends, or you can use this method which is a bit more exact. Once your course is complete and you're ready to publish a SCORM package, you'll want to publish for LMS distribution.
  2. You can find out more about our pricing here, and if you have any specific questions on pricing, our Success Team would be happy to speak with you about that.
  3. You would not need anything outside of Articulate software to achieve what you're looking to do. You can learn more about the features of Storyline here and access the user guide here.

I hope this answers your questions, and please reach out if you have any others! Also, I wanted to let you know that responding via email includes your email signature here. You're welcome to come back and remove personal information, if you like.

Dear Sir/Madam,

i tried the solution on Moodle.

I created one slide. I embed the vimeo video.

I have created two triggers for time completion but for submit interaction and submit result.

I used SCORM CLOUD to test but the package is marked passed even if i move forward the video timeline.

Is there another solution? Must i use variables?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Nikolas - I think we assumed you were asking just about course navigation and viewing the video, not that this was needed for tracking as well. How do you have the course set for tracking to the LMS? You may need to have another slide after the video slide, so you can track by the slide being completed.

You may also want to check out this solution on utilizing a specific slide for course completion.

This is how i managed to do it. Having a second slide that is accessible only if time constrains are met. But the problem is that slide timeline is not in sync with vimeo video file. And no controls are available to accomplish that. That would be excellent if you can provide.
Using players from vimeo or youtube to control video. Then the sky is the limit.

I am having this same issue. The user will get CE credits so I would like to hold on to the next button until one minute before the video is complete to ensure the entire video plays. However, it is a Vimeo link and the timeline only goes to 1000 sec and the video is an hour and a half. Is the only solution that I embed the video file directly into the project instead of using the link with the web object?

Hi Tara - If you need the timelines to sync up, then it would need to be a part of your course for sure. Hopefully you have access to the actual video file that is not loaded on Vimeo.

Not sure if others in the community have some ideas or best practices to share for this scenario - especially since your video sounds quite large.
