End of Course Tracking question
Dec 17, 2018
Hey everyone,
I have a course where there is a navigation option to view one set of slides or another. My material is proprietary so here is a generic example of what I mean; I'm doing a course on building a sandwich. The first few slides are introduction then it comes to a slide where I can choose (click) to make a PB and J or a Ham and Cheese. Each set of slides has its own graded assessment at the end. I know when publishing you are only allowed to track one set of results. Is there an easy way to do it so they can count as "passed" regardless which navigation they choose?
I know "Complete Course" trigger might be the way to go, but can I do that at the end of each assessment and it will work or will it only track from one of those triggered buttons? Thanks in advance.

Going to add a follow-up question here. So if I use the "Track by Course Completion Trigger" option when publishing how does this need to look in the course? Do I have to add a button with this trigger, or can I add a trigger to a "successful passing" layer at the end (results slide)?
Hi Joel,
It sounds like you're creating a branching course with a quiz at the end of each "branch". You have the right idea to use a course completion trigger!
Here's an overview of how you'll want to use that trigger. Go to the Results Slide at the end of each branch. On the Failure layer, add a trigger that sends a failed status to the LMS. On the Success layer, add another trigger that sends a passed status.
For example:
Then, when you are ready to publish the course for LMS, mark the option to track learners based on course completion triggers you added to your course.

Awesome, thanks for the response. I know it may seem like an obvious question, but can I only a trigger if they "pass" for recording into LMS? If they fail, they have to retake the test until they pass. I'm guessing Storyline is just going to look for "Complete Course" triggers. Thanks again Alyssa!
Hi Joel, great question!
That will depend on the reporting status you select when you publish for LMS. It sounds like you'll want to use Passed/Incomplete:
This status will allow learners to go back and retake the test until they pass.
Thanks again. One more question (maybe 2). So right now on my Results slide I have a Failure and a Success layer. I added the "Complete Course" trigger to the success layer like you mentioned. My question is on the results slide, one of the triggers is "Submit Results 4.14" when timeline starts. I added an image of what I'm talking about. Again, my "complete course" will happen on the success layer, wasn't sure if this "submit results" trigger is not needed or if this trigger shows them their overall score. I don't want different triggers trying to do the same thing is all. Thanks!
Hi Joel!
You'll want to leave the "submit result" trigger on the results slide -- it won't interfere with the "complete course" trigger.
Then, be sure to select Track using complete course trigger when publishing for LMS.
Let me know if you have any more questions!
Awesome thanks!
So I'm not sure if this is a glitch or I am doing something wrong. I have my branching set up to work as we stated above. However, now one of my branches will always report 0% on the final test even when some questions are answered correctly. My other branch test works fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Hey Joel,
Thanks for reaching back out. We're certainly glad to continue helping you.
It looks like we never had an option to take a look at your setup. With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.
Please let me know which branch is causing the difficulty :)
I ended up deleting both results slides and recreating it and it seems like that worked, but if I have more issues, I'll send it your way...thanks!
Please keep us posted, Joel! We're here to help.
